For Manga & Comic Readers

A manga PDF reader builtfor desktop, with page-flip.

PDFBook is a privacy-first desktop PDF reader for Windows, macOS, and Linux that turns manga and comic PDFs into a book-like reading experience. Its flip mode simulates real page-turning with sound, the built-in library manages thousands of volumes with tags and ratings, and your files never leave your computer, which is important when your collection includes doujinshi or self-published works.

Realistic page-flip mode

PDFBook's flip mode renders pages as a physical book with animated page turns and optional flip sound. Read manga right-to-left the way it was meant to be read.

Library for thousands of volumes

Organize your manga collection with folders, tags, star ratings, and reading state (Unread / Reading / Completed). Search by title, author, tag, or path finds any volume instantly.

Private by design

No telemetry, no account, no cloud upload. Your doujinshi and personal collection stays on your machine. The only network call is a once-daily license check with a 14-day offline grace period.

Handles large files fast

Dual PDF engines (pdf.js for flip mode and PDFium WASM for vertical scroll) with lazy, windowed rendering keep 500+ page tankoubon volumes smooth, even on modest hardware.

Your files never leave your computer

Frequently asked questions

Can PDFBook read manga right-to-left?+
Yes. PDFBook's flip mode renders pages as a physical book and supports right-to-left page order, which is the standard reading direction for Japanese manga. You turn on right-to-left reading in Settings (Reader).
Does PDFBook support CBZ or CBR comic formats?+
Yes, through conversion. PDFBook includes a built-in Converter that turns CBZ and CBR comic archives into PDF on your device, with no Calibre or other external tool needed, and then adds them straight to your library. Pages stored as JPEG or PNG (the vast majority of comics) embed directly. Uncommon page formats like GIF, WebP, or BMP are skipped. PDFBook then reads the resulting scanned-image PDFs of any size smoothly.
Is PDFBook safe for doujinshi and private collections?+
Yes. PDFBook is designed with privacy first: no telemetry, no account system, and no cloud upload. Your files are read locally and never transmitted anywhere. The desktop app makes a single daily license-validation call containing only your license key, with a 14-day offline grace window.
How many manga volumes can PDFBook manage?+
PDFBook's library has no hard limit on the number of books. Users routinely manage collections of several thousand volumes. The Free tier caps at 50 books; Pro and Lifetime remove that limit entirely.
What does PDFBook cost compared to other manga readers?+
PDFBook is free for up to 50 books. Pro is $6.99/month, and Lifetime is a one-time $89 payment with no recurring charges. Unlike subscription-only readers, PDFBook's Lifetime plan means you pay once and own it forever.
